Ling, the spirit (chip / motherboard): handles the highest-level core logic of life; it is the aggregate of the "three hun."
Hun, the soul (ribbon cable / a rope): transmits high-dimensional thought. The hun is like a rope — the higher your thinking and the more solid your practice, the thicker and stronger this rope becomes, and the more cosmic energy it can carry.
Po, the soul-anchor (display / a bead): manifests the senses (eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind) in the three-dimensional material world. The po is like a "bead" hanging at the lower end of that rope.
The essence of practice is cultivating the "altitude of where you return." Caught up in life's daily grind, most people fix their eyes on money and goods, fill their ears with gossip and judgment, and their senses (po) become unbearably heavy. The heavier the bead, the more it drags the hun's ribbon cable downward, pulling your conscious frequency down and down — this is the physical mechanism of reincarnation.
Some traditions (including certain Buddhist precepts) advocate cutting off the five senses through drastic means, attempting to "sever" the po outright. But in our system of practice, Elder Brother Cai once taught: above the hun is tied a balloon, and the purpose of practice is to "let the balloon (the purity of the hun) grow larger, carrying the bead (the po) gently upward with it" — this is called lifting hun and po together, returning to truth. If you blindly gather energy or forcibly sever the senses, cutting the ribbon cable, the bead falls, the three lines separate, and you plunge directly into a reincarnation of fragmentation instead. Beings with a spine must, through the generative interplay of the True Body and the temporary body, and the inward drawing of the numinous mystery, come together to attain immortality.
